In 1795 Michel Etienne Descourtilz publishes the Histoire des desastres de Saint-Domingue in Paris, giving an overview of the beginning of the Haitian Revolution from a French perspective.
The Second Maroon War is fought on Jamaica, a neighboring island, in 1795.
The rebel leader and maroon Romaine-la-Prophétesse dies in 1795.

- "On the 20th of July, 1795, Polverel wrote him [Toussaint Louverture] these lines: "We do not think you a traitor, but you show not the courage of a republican. If you do not feel strength enough to die rather than yield, say so frankly. We can easily find citizens who make no account of death, when the honor of their country is at stake." (Beard p. 69)
- On July 22 the western half of Hispaniola was finally ceded to the French by Spain trough the Treaty of Basel.
- On July 27 Toussaint and his troops capture Marmelade and then move on towards Ennery. (Beard p. 69)
