- Napoléon Bonaparte has himself crowned Emperor of the French (Empereur des Français) under the name Napoleon I on May 18.

- Jean-Jacques Dessalines is crowned emperor of Haiti under the name of H.I.M. Jacques I, Emperor of Haiti at the Church of Champ-de-Mars on October 8.
