Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825) sketch of the Tennis Court Oath (French: serment du jeu de paume), a pledge signed by 577 members of France's Third Estate (also called the National Assembly) during the Estates-General of June 20, 1789 in Versailles. This is regarded by many as the start of the French Revolution.

In 1792 Jacques-Louis David became a deputy in the French National Convention.
