Bust of Toussaint Louverture at Fort de Joux, France. Below is the inscription (in French) "In overthrowing me, you have cut down in Saint-Domingue only the trunk of the tree of liberty It will spring up again by the roots for they are numerous and deep." 1 Words Toussaint is believed to have said (in 1802) to his French captors as he was being led away to his imprisonment in France.

The Bust was placed in front of Toussaint's dungeon at Fort de Joux in the year 2002.
