Chapter Summary: Inspired by the "Tell 'em what you're going to tell 'em, tell 'em, then tell 'em what you told 'em" school of thought, Chapter One sets the stage for the rest of the narrative by giving the reader a broad overview of the history of the Haitian Revolution. Section One will provide a very rough sketch of the events of the Revolution, with subsequent sections devoted to further developing the reader's understanding of what happened. The intent is to provide context, as subsequent chapters will drill down into specific focus areas.
