Romaine-la-Prophétesse (died 1795) was a mulatto and a religious leader of slave insurrections in Saint-Domingue whose campaign in the plain of Léogâne lasted from the summer of 1791 to March of 1792. Romaine claimed to be the godson of the Virgin Mary, who commanded him to raid plantations, and kill whites.
"He pretended that he had had frequent apparitions of the Blessed Virgin, and in this way he acquired a great amount of influence over his companions." (Léger p. 54)
