Thomas Clarkson (1760 Wisbech - 1846) a British abolitionist who encouraged the Amis des Noirs and supplied the society with propaganda that had been used in Britain. (James, p. 54) He also financed weapons purchases by the Haitian mulatto leader Vincent Ogé used for his crushed revolt in 1790.
