Toussaint Louverture (aka François Dominique Toussaint Louverture; aka Toussaint Breda) was one of the leading figures of the Haitian Revolution. Toussaint Louverture led his country through a tumultuous uprising; defeated British, Spanish, and French armies; and lay the groundwork for an independent Black Republic.
