Colonel Pierre Michel was the Negro subordinate of Jean Baptiste Villatte. When Villatte rose up against General Laveaux in Le Cap in 1796. Pierre Michel kept Toussaint Louverture informed. When Laveaux was captured, Pierre Michel "assembled all the men he knew to be loyal and called the cultivators to 'defend their friend Laveaux.'" (Parkinson, p. 101)
