John Perkins

Hi there, I've done some research over the last few years on a British Captain named John Perkins. I've written a wikipedia article that you and your colleagues might find interesting. Let me know if you take a look and if you like it or could add to it. Many thanks, Ian Corneredmouse

Doe - I hope you've found the new place okay. It took me a while to get the database restored and the redirects working properly. I also noticed a little too late that you had been making some edits tonight. I hope we didn't lose any.

I'll make a note on this elsewhere, but for your knowledge, I moved the wiki up one directory level, so that now if you go to the root url, you'll be right into the wiki. I also made it so that you don't need to put in the www before the domain name. We're also running the newest version of Mediawiki now, and future updates should be much easier.

In addition, I moved the blog to http://journal.thelouvertureproject.org. At some point, I'll re-structure that to be more of a reference resource and less of a blog-looking thing.

I think everything should be working properly, but please let me know if anything seems amiss.

Cheers!

Redirect Issues

"Everything seems to work fine, except that pages with accents in their titles don't seem to work correctly."

Boy, this has me stumped. I've sent a message to the mediawiki mailing list. Hopefully one of those guys will have the answer. Worst case scenario: we have to wait for Google to re-index the wiki pages. I've got a Google sitemap up now, so hopefully that won't take too long.

"Overall, or is it my early morning over-caffeinated state, the site seems more responsive. maybe it's the new MediaWiki version?"

Maybe a bit of both?  ;-) Things definitely seem snappier, and the software just keeps improving. I don't know if you check the RSS feed for recent changes, but I love that I can now see colored diffs when pages change.

"I like the design of the Journal a lot, how about some, even if very infrequent, new entries.."

That's the plan. You can see how long it takes me to get around to doing stuff here, though, so don't hold your breath.  :-)

That said, I really want to re-design that page a little bit to make finding information easier. I've got some ideas for how to do that. I just need another free weekend when I can dig into the template.

In the meantime, if you'd like to contribute to the journal, feel free to register at the site, and I'll bump up your privileges asap.

Cheers! --Stuart 10:54, 4 September 2006 (PDT)

More spam fighting

Well, the new version of MediaWiki had the spammers stumped for a while, but they're starting to find the holes again. So, I added a few restrictions to try to keep them at bay. I hate locking the wiki down at all, but I'm getting tired of cleaning up after these guys all the time... and I'm sure you are, too.

I restricted anonymous users from editing and creating pages. And, I'm requiring users to confirm their email addresses before they can edit. That should slow them down again... for a while... :-)
