John Perkins
Hi there, I've done some research over the last few years on a British Captain named John Perkins. I've written a wikipedia article that you and your colleagues might find interesting. Let me know if you take a look and if you like it or could add to it. Many thanks, Ian Corneredmouse
Doe - I hope you've found the new place okay. It took me a while to get the database restored and the redirects working properly. I also noticed a little too late that you had been making some edits tonight. I hope we didn't lose any.
I'll make a note on this elsewhere, but for your knowledge, I moved the wiki up one directory level, so that now if you go to the root url, you'll be right into the wiki. I also made it so that you don't need to put in the www before the domain name. We're also running the newest version of Mediawiki now, and future updates should be much easier.
In addition, I moved the blog to http://journal.thelouvertureproject.org. At some point, I'll re-structure that to be more of a reference resource and less of a blog-looking thing.
I think everything should be working properly, but please let me know if anything seems amiss.
Cheers!

Redirect Issues
"Everything seems to work fine, except that pages with accents in their titles don't seem to work correctly."
Boy, this has me stumped. I've sent a message to the mediawiki mailing list. Hopefully one of those guys will have the answer. Worst case scenario: we have to wait for Google to re-index the wiki pages. I've got a Google sitemap up now, so hopefully that won't take too long.
"Overall, or is it my early morning over-caffeinated state, the site seems more responsive. maybe it's the new MediaWiki version?"
Maybe a bit of both? ;-) Things definitely seem snappier, and the software just keeps improving. I don't know if you check the RSS feed for recent changes, but I love that I can now see colored diffs when pages change.
"I like the design of the Journal a lot, how about some, even if very infrequent, new entries.."
That's the plan. You can see how long it takes me to get around to doing stuff here, though, so don't hold your breath. :-)
That said, I really want to re-design that page a little bit to make finding information easier. I've got some ideas for how to do that. I just need another free weekend when I can dig into the template.
In the meantime, if you'd like to contribute to the journal, feel free to register at the site, and I'll bump up your privileges asap.
Cheers! --Stuart 10:54, 4 September 2006 (PDT)
More spam fighting
Well, the new version of MediaWiki had the spammers stumped for a while, but they're starting to find the holes again. So, I added a few restrictions to try to keep them at bay. I hate locking the wiki down at all, but I'm getting tired of cleaning up after these guys all the time... and I'm sure you are, too.
I restricted anonymous users from editing and creating pages. And, I'm requiring users to confirm their email addresses before they can edit. That should slow them down again... for a while... :-)
Michael Diebert Article is an attack page/factually inaccurate
This article as authored by Dominique Esser is factually inaccurate on several points and as such must be amended.
1. "Extreme right wing stance"
Deibert is in fact left-wing, and has vocally supported a multitude of progressive causes both within and without Haiti. For example
A. Deibert is a strong supporter of Haiti's peasantry
The international community's responsibility to Haiti http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/cifamerica/2010/jul/12/haiti-earthquake-redevelopment
Haiti’s peasantry key to reconstruction http://www.alterpresse.org/spip.php?article9450
B. Deibert is a strong defender of the rights of Haitian immigrants in the Dominican Republic
Exhibit Reveals a Bitter Harvest http://ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=36905
A disgraceful campaign by the government of the Dominican Republic http://michaeldeibert.blogspot.com/2007/03/disgraceful-campaign-by-government-of.html
An Appeal to Decency on behalf of Haitians and Dominicans of Haitian descent http://michaeldeibert.blogspot.com/2007/05/appeal-to-decency-on-behalf-of-haitians.html
C. Deibert was a strong supporter of the election of U.S. President Barack Obama
Why I am voting for Barack Obama http://michaeldeibert.blogspot.com/2008/04/why-i-am-voting-for-barack-obama.html
D. Deibert was a strong supporter of health care reform in the United States
The Guns of August http://michaeldeibert.blogspot.com/2009/08/guns-of-august.html
2. "Frequently criticized"
Deibert has as many defenders as critics, both within Haiti and without. For example:
"Indefensible: On Aristide, Violence, and Democracy" by Alex Dupuy http://deiberthaiti.blogspot.com/2009/12/indefensible-on-aristide-violence-and.html
""L’aventure onusienne en Haiti" by Jean-Claude Bajeux http://www.alterpresse.org/spip.php?article4420

In Defense of Michael Deibert by Gerry Hadden http://deiberthaiti.blogspot.com/2011/03/in-defense-of-michael-deibert.html
3. Patrick Elie
The statements linked to by Patrick Elie - who was imprisoned in the United States for several years for lying - are potentially libelous and open both the website and editor Dominique Esser to possible legal action. See Final notes on Patrick Elie http://deiberthaiti.blogspot.com/2008/03/final-notes-on-patrick-elie.html
4. Characterization of only "right-wing" opposition to Aristide is false.
Many critics were left wing. For example, the Solidarité Fanm Ayisyen (SOFA), Plateforme Haïtienne de Plaidoyer pour un Développement Alternatif (PAPDA), etc. See "A Tribute to Jacques Roche, Tireless Defender of the Poor!" http://www.cadtm.org/A-tribute-to-Jacques-Roche
5. Violation of copyright.
