Ebenezer Bassett (Litchfield, Connecticut October 16, 1833 - 1908) was appointed US Minister to Haiti in 1869, this made him the first African American diplomat.Basset served as minister resident and consul general in Haiti from 1869 to 1877.

Basett was buried in the Grove Street Cemetery in New Haven, Connecticut.
