I was taking a look at the front page the other day.  I really think it needs to be changed to reflect some of the new material we have online. I might have some time this weekend to take do an update, but feel free to dive in and muck about with it, if you like. --Stumax 07:53, 14 Dec 2005 (PST)

Doe - I've added a spam filter that disallows span tags (can't remember right now if it's all span tags or just certain ones.)  It's really made a difference in the amount of spam hits we get.  I wasn't sure if you use span tags in your posts or not. If you have any issues, let me know. --Stumax 13:56, 23 February 2006 (PST)

Okay, this is getting ridiculous.  This is one of a couple of wikis I'm involved with that has been getting slammed by spam in the past week or so. I've got some ideas about how to tackle this, and since you've been the primary contributor to the Louverture Project lately, I wanted to run a couple of things by you.

First, I hate the idea of requiring registration in order to edit a page, but I may have no choice if I can't find a better spam-blocking method, and it will probably provide us some immediate respite from the spam attacks. What do you think about requiring registration?

Secondly, I'd like to restructure the domain so that the wiki shows up at the first level (i.e., so you don't have to add /wiki to the domain name).  The blog was a nice idea, but the wiki is the real focus, and should take the prime position on the domain.  The side benefit of that would be that I could then let my hosting service manage the mediawiki installation, making software upgrades easier (and therefore, theoretically, better resistance to spam).  I think I can write the htaccess file so that everything redirects properly, but there may be some issues. It will certainly mean that the wiki will be unavailable for a time while I'm reconfiguring everything. Do you have any thoughts on whether this is a good idea or not?  Also, do you have a preference on when this happens?  I'd probably prefer to tackle this over a weekend.

Doe, thanks for your response. I spent 3 hours last night deleting over 100 spam pages from another wiki I run, and I see you've been busy doing cleanup here, too. I tried again to enable the Bad Behavior spam blocker on this wiki.  I'll keep an eye on it today, and if we keep getting hit, I'm going to have to temporarily disallow anonymous edits.

I will move forward with restructuring the domain folders, probably one of the first weekends in August. I'll be sure to give plenty of heads up. --Stuart 09:05, 21 July 2006 (PDT)

It will certainly mean that the wiki will be unavailable for a time while I'm reconfiguring everything. Do you have any thoughts on whether this is a good idea or not? Also, do you have a preference on when this happens? I'd probably prefer to tackle this over a weekend.

I'm really happy with the way the wiki is growing. Thanks again for all you do.
