1801

On November 18, 1801 Napoléon Bonaparte writes a letter to Toussaint Louverture regarding the Saint-Domingue Constitution of 1801, stating that it "...contains some [provisions] that are contrary to the dignity and sovereignty of the French people, of which Saint-Dominigue forms only a portion."

1803

On November 18, 1803 the Battle of Vertières between the French troops under General Rochambeau and the Haitian troops under Dessalines takes place. The Haitian troops among them the Haitian Ninth Brigade under François Capois, named 'La Mort' (French: The Death) won a decisive victory in this last major battle of the Haitian Revolution, causing French surrender and leading to Haitian independence in 1804.
