Victor Schoelchers, widely cited, 19th century book on Toussaint Louverture. The book by Toussaint's biographer is valuable for the understanding of the period, because it contains many original documents.

Victor Schoelcher (1804-1893) was a French abolitionist writer in the 1800's and the main spokesman for a group from Paris who worked for the abolition of slavery, and formed an abolition society in 1834. He worked especially hard for the abolition of slavery on the Caribbean islands.
