Cap Français is one of many formal names that Le Cap has held over the years. This name usually refers to the city under french colonial rule up to 1804, since it was renamed after the successful Haitian revolution. The city's formal name now is Cap Haïtien in French or Okap in Haitian Creole. See the main entry: Le Cap
