In 1758 Marie-Claire Heureuse Félicité, the wife of Jean-Jacques Dessalines, was born in Léogâne, Saint-Domingue.
1758 is also U.S. President Jamesa Monroe's year of birth. Monroe formulated was has become known as the Monroe Doctrine in 1823. The Monroe doctrine lays out foreign policy in regard to the Americas and the islands in the Caribbean Sea and greatly impacted Haiti.
